Council report (aggregated from Twitter)

Civic officeOk, so I may have dissed twitter in the past- so I guess I need to eat some humble pie…

The run down – as you probably missed it:

  • Had written answers to 3 questions on street trees, fly tipping and a new comm police office

(will put these up tomorrow)

  • Housing strategy passes
  • Gambling licensing principles – review – approved

Cllr Lovelock is disappointed – Because we have questions about building a £70 million new Civic centre…

  • Lib(sic)/con pact continues on the new civic – can’t last for ever.

This should read “Lab/con” – Dyslexia strikes again! Coupled with bloody iPhone autocorrect…

  • Review of electoral areas – complex issue, voted to take no action for now…
  • Reading Tory Cllr: “in polls the importance of [climate change] in going down” – Expect the Tories to lose interest!
  • Joint labour and LibDem motion on joining 10:10 campaign passes – some Tory anti climate change views expressed.

In the debate about a Tory motion, dealing with the councils £3 million VAT “windfall”:

  • Tories complain about fictional budgets… Where were their proposals last year? More importantly, where will the Tories cut [next year]!
  • Reading Tories: [there will be] cuts and savings across the board!!!
  • Reading Tories: [will bring] savings and cuts across the board! Will any one think of the children??

Such a revaluation I had to twitter it twice! – it would seem… Tory colour clearly nailed to the mast…

  • Lab amended LibDem child protection motion – passes
  • Council closes 22:10

I wish the LD would get serious about this. LD councils around the country have supported airport expansion and stopped wind farms.

If you have indeed supported this motion then well done, but get your fellow LDs to do the same.

Hey Adrian, I’ve only ever spoken to Lib Dems who support this…

I’m assuming the wind farms would be down to either planning or public pressure.

If you’d like to e-mail me the specific councils I’d happily lobby them.

And yes… we are very serious about this, having been to see Eastleigh Lib Dems I can see that Reading still has a VERY long way to go. I hope the Labour admin are equally serious

I meant this comment for the post above, my mistake. Thanks for responding though.
