Frankly, all this scaremongering from Reading Labour is very telling. Reading Labour clearly have no ideas and if they did they would have produced an alternative budget. WHICH THEY DIDN’T!

Instead they’ve bitched and moaned about cuts, which THEY caused. Unfortunately, it’s far easier to be critical than than to offer alternatives. But the question to ask has to be:

What libraries would Labour close?

How many staff would Labour sack?

How many services would Labour cut?

How much would Labour put UP council tax?

You just  couldn’t make it up, unless you’re Reading Labour

Apparently, Labour say the local Lib Dems want to take away your liberties and not consult you on anything, ever.

Erm, wasn’t that how Labour ran the council for 20+ years? One-way IDR, paying your money to  Union staff, the botched Shinfield Road fiasco… where was the full representative and meaningful public consultation then?

In fact, we and coalition have offered more consultations than the Labour party ever would. We even asked residents what the councils priorities should be. The results were then used to… oh… choose the priorities of the coalition council. Those crazy liberals.

What a load of rubbish

Apparently according to Reading Labour, us evil Lib Dems are planning to secretly inflict weekly bagged collections throughout Reading, without consultation and against residents wishes.

Or… we are going to look at roads were wheelie-bins cause an issue or where there have been a large number of failed collections and offer those residents weekly, bagged bin collections. This would only ever happen on a street where after a consultation, the residents wanted it!

Labour are also putting around lies and scaremongering about parking meters and saying that its a done deal.

The truth? Parking meters will only be installed with full and proper consultation involving everyone and your local Lib Dem councillors. If no one wants it, then it wont happen. If anyone is saying anything else then they are deliberately misleading people.

I have had a few emails form residents in Redlands asking about these issues and they were rightly concerned by Labours accusations. I have even seen literature from Labour stating these assumptions.

Equally, I’ve had emails for residents to let me know Labour are spreading this detritus.

Frankly, Labour are out of ideas and the fibs they’re saying on the door step quite probably come from their own plans for this year, if they’d still been in office.
